Why I haven't blogged anything for two months
I love having a place to write down thoughts long-form, and I'm sure that my Facebook friends prefer my pontifications being here on my own website where they can take it or leave it, rather than cluttering their own newsfeeds.
The problem is that the gurus say this outlet is a marketing tool, which gives me the pressure to "get something out there", even if it's not particularly interesting or relevant. I won't do that. [Meatloaf plays in background] No, I won't do that. In fact, I wrote a couple of entries which I ultimately decided not to publish (you're welcome). Election season brings out my most creative vitriol I suppose.
My non-work energy has been focused around a couple passions for the past 2 months:
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: I was not very consistent with my training in 2015 due to a lot of work related travel, and not making it a priority over making friends and exploring this new place I'd just moved to. Those couple extra classes a week have made a big difference in the frequency and the degree to which my butt is kicked during sparring sessions, so that's been good for the ol self confidence. I have a week vacation to Mexico in two weeks with some old teachers/training partners, and can't wait to have nothing else to worry about but surfing, training, and micheladas.
Air Guitar: The competitive air guitar season is getting ready to kick off, and this year I've spent a lot more time working on organizing different parts of the tour. You may be reading this not knowing that any of this is a thing, but if we've ever spoken for more than 15 minutes, you probably do. If you are among the uninitiated, stay tuned to my social media, which will become a 24 hour Air Guitar news station all summer long.
To prove that I'm still working, here's a project I worked on with Mountain Dew and the Vayner Media for a launch of a new product, Black Label. Was really enjoyable working with a fun group of professionals.
My favorite is the last vignette, featuring the James Brown of gamers.
